Browser Extensions for Research

Use these tools to connect easily to library content while browsing the web.
  • What is it? A browser extension that automatically connects you to full-text articles licensed by the Joseph F. Smith Library as you browse sites like Wikipedia, PubMed, and other publisher pages. If the library has it, LibKey gives you a one-click "Download PDF" button.

    • Who can use it: Open to all, but requires BYUH credentials for full-text access
    • How to access:
      1. Visit the LibKey Nomad website and install the extension for your browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari).
      2. Once installed, search for and select "Brigham Young University - Hawaii" as your institution.

      3. Look for LibKey droplet icon on the bottom left of compatible webpages
      4. You can now see the "Download PDF" and "View Complete Issue" buttons for eligible articles.

  • What is it? A powerful, free citation that helps you collect, organize, cite, and share research. We recommend using the Zotero Connector extension alongside LibKey Nomad for the smoothest experience capturing metadata and PDFs.

    • Who can use it: Everyone
    • How to access:
      1. Download the Zotero application.
      2. Install the Zotero Connector for your browser to save sources with a single click.

Reading & eBook Apps

Tools for reading library eBooks on your mobile devices or offline
  • What is it? Read eBooks and listen to audiobooks from the library's collection on your phone or tablet.

    • Who can use it: Current Students, Faculty, and Staff.
    • How to access:
      1. Download the Libby app or visit their website.
      2. Select "Yes" when asked if you have a library card.
      3. Tap "Search For A Library" and type: Brigham Young University Hawaii
      4. Select the BYUH option and tap "Sign In With My Card".
      5. Log in using your secure BYUH NetID and Password to link your card.
  • What is it? The primary platform for academic eBooks used in many courses. Features include online highlighting, annotation, and bookshelf organization.

    • Who can use it: Current Students and Faculty.
    • How to access:
      • Access is automatic when you click on an eBook link in the Library Search.
      • You can read online immediately or use Adobe Digital Editions (see below) for offline downloading.
  • What is it? Required software if you wish to download DRM-protected eBooks (from ProQuest or EBSCO) to read offline on your laptop.

    • Who can use it: Everyone
    • How to access:
      1. Download from the Adobe Website.
      2. Authorize your computer with a free Adobe ID to read your downloaded books across multiple devices.
  • What is it? A dedicated app to search the library’s EBSCO databases, download full-text articles, and read EBSCO eBooks on the go.

    • Who can use it: Current Students and Faculty.
    • How to access:
      1. Download the EBSCO Mobile app from your app store.
      2. Open the app and tap "Get Started."
      3. Search for Brigham Young University - Hawaii and log in with your university credentials.

Campus Software Subscriptions

Premium software provided by the university to support your coursework. For more information, go to Student IT Resources.
  • What is it? The full collection of Microsoft productivity tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and 1TB of OneDrive cloud storage.

    • Who can use it: Current Students and Employees
    • How to access: Go to Office 365 for more information.

Streaming Video & Media

  • What is it? A streaming video platform offering thousands of award-winning documentaries, training films, and classic cinema.

    • Who can use it: Current Students and Faculty.
    • How to access:
      1. Go to BYUH Kanopy or download the Kanopy app.
      2. Select "Log In" and choose "Find Your University."
      3. Search for Brigham Young University (or BYUH) and authenticate with your student ID.
  • What is it? A streaming library of feature films and major studio movies assigned for specific courses.

    • Who can use it: Students enrolled in BYU-Hawaii.
    • How to access:
      • Go to Swank and access the movies accessible by BYUH students!
  • What is it? A massive collection of newsreels, live performances, counseling sessions, and historical archives.

    • Who can use it: Current Students and Faculty.
    • How to access:
      1. Access directly through Alexander Street on your browser. The video player is mobile-friendly and allows for streaming on phones and tablets.

Creative Tools

  • What is it? Industry-standard creative software including Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, InDesign, and Acrobat Pro.

    • Who can use it: Current Students
      • Note: While core apps are available to all students, access to specific specialized applications may be restricted to Graphic Design Majors.
    • How to access: Go to Student IT Resources for more information.
  • What is it? A graphic design platform for creating presentations, social media graphics, and posters. The university provides a premium "Canva for Campus" account.

    • Who can use it: Current Students.
    • How to access:
    1. Go to Canva.com or download the app.
    2. Select "Log in" and choose "Continue with Work Email" or "SSO".
    3. Enter your BYUH email address to be redirected to the university login page.
