Mildred "Auntie Millie" Ku‘ualoha Ng, Hawai‘i’s 1958 Aloha Week Queen, died July 12. She was 70. Ng, a native of Honolulu, was appointed queen when she was 29 years old and served as an ambassador of sorts for San Francisco and Portland, Ore., festivals during her reign. She was named Moi Wahine Ku‘ualoha for the local Aloha Week.

In the years that followed, Ng was active with the former Aloha Week Kings and Queens club, and was a member of the Ka‘ahumanu Society and the Honolulu Hawaiian Civic Club. She also was active with halau. She danced with Hula Halau O Maiki, and two and a half years ago joined Ka Hale I O Kahala, better known as the House of I. Kumu hula Leimomi Maldonado said Ng was a "gracious and gentle lady."

"She was really a big help in our school," Maldonado said. "We definitely will miss Auntie." Ng was a retired flower shop manager with the Halekulani Hotel.

She is survived by her husband, Paul Sr.; son, Paul Jr.; daughters, Leona Kalima, Millicent Ng, Paulette Nakamatsu, Kisha Ng and Kathy Ng; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren.
