How Long Will It Take / How long can I keep them?

It depends on the lending library:

  • Most books can be obtained from BYU in Provo, and should arrive in five working days. If the book is not available from BYU-Provo, it will take longer (2-4 weeks).
  • Books are usually available to the patron for a period of two to three weeks. Some items may be renewed. Due dates and other conditions are printed on the Interlibrary Loan book label. Books should be returned directly to circulation.
  • Articles obtained from BYU-Provo are usually delivered electronically within one to two working days. Articles from other libraries will take longer to arrive.
  • Articles are delivered electronically unless special arrangements are made. Articles may be downloaded and kept.

Book Renewal

Many books may be renewed for an additional one to two weeks. Please call 675-3850 or email ill@byuh.edu several days before the original due date to request a renewal. In cases where the lending institution refuses to renew, please return the item immediately. Interlibrary loan items do not belong to BYU-H and we do not want to jeopardize our privileges with the lending libraries. In most cases we can locate the identical item at another library and request it.

To renew your interlibrary loan books, please email us at ill@byuh.edu. Your email should contain:

  • Your Name
  • a list of the books you want renewed
  • IL number (found on the strip placed in the front of the books).

Note: Renewals are not guaranteed. A reply will be sent to you via email.
